Cosmetic Acupuncture

What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

892 (300 x 225)Cosmetic or Facial Acupuncture is a natural alternative to cosmetic surgery, BOTOX® injections , acid peels, and dermabrasion. It holistically addresses the causes of aging skin, unlike methods such as cosmetic surgery or BOTOX® injections that only change the appearance without addressing underlying factors.

The Chinese have been using Facial Acupuncture to combat the signs of ageing since the Sun dynasty, 800 years ago, when the empress and the emperor’s concubines used it to maintain their youthful allure.

In February, 2012 OK magazine stated,  “Forget BOTOX® – the latest way to banish the years and banish those telltale lines is with Facial Acupuncture…..”, highlighting its use amongst celebrities such as Madonna,  Gwyneth Paltrow,  Angelina Jolie, Cher, Sean Connery, and others.

How does it work?

In a session lasting about one hour, sterile, hair-thin, disposable needles are inserted into acupuncture points on the face and scalp to encourage blood flow, to drain the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins, and to stimulate the production of new collagen to strengthen the structure of the skin. This results in a general tightening of facial tissue and gives a smoother, firmer line to the face and neck. Fine lines may be entirely erased, deeper lines reduced, and bags around the neck and eyes firmed. Through working on the acupuncture meridians corresponding to all the organs and systems, cosmetic acupuncture brings the added benefit of balancing and supporting the whole body.

What kind of results can be achieved?

A study in the 1996 International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that 90% of the 300 cases treated with Cosmetic Acupuncture had marked beneficial results after only their first treatment. These effects included the diminishing of wrinkles, improved facial muscle elasticity and overall rejuvenation of the face.

Clients receiving Cosmetic Acupuncture have reported:

  • Improved complexion and facial colour
  • Smoothing and firming of the skin
  • Lifted and toned eyelids and eyebrows
  • Eye bags either reduced or eliminated
  • Double chins minimized and in some cases eliminated
  • Reduced stress, improved health and a sense of well-being
  • No recovery time
  • Reduced acne, eczema and rosacea
  • it WORKS! .

This sequence of photos kindly donated by my client Heather shows, photo top left, Heather’s presentation before treatment began and obvious improvements on completion of the recommended 12 treatments. Heather’s jawline definition was a particular concern for her before we began and she was very happy with the outcome, bottom left. Furthermore there is a lift of the eyebrows and eyelids creating a ‘wide-awake’ expression.  Marked improvement in her complexion is also apparent.

What does a course of treatment involve?

Optimal results can be achieved with a course of 10 – 12 treatments performed weekly. Although studies (see above) have shown improvements after a single treatment, visible results will be noticeable after the first few sessions. Response to Cosmetic Acupuncture will vary from client to client depending on age, general health and lifestyle. Following the initial course, Keith recommends ongoing monthly maintenance treatments. He also offers combined treatments with facial massage or reflexology for a more deeply profound rejuvenation experience.
